Βαρομετρικό χαμηλό που σχηματίζεται το πρωί του Σαββάτου με κέντρο στην περιοχή της Ρόδου κινείται νοτιοανατολικά προς την περιοχή της Κύπρου και βαθαίνει ως αποτέλεσμα της δυναμικής αστάθειας που επικρατεί στην μέση ατμόσφαιρα. Λόγω του ότι ο αναμενόμενος καιρός κατά την περίοδο από τα μεσάνυχτα του Σαββάτου 17/12/21 μέχρι και το απόγευμα της ∆ευτέρας 19/12/21, θα είναι σημαντικός, με μεγάλα ύψη βροχής, παρατεταμένες και ταυτόχρονα έντονες καταιγίδες, σφοδρούς άνεμους και σημαντικό ύψος κύματος, το Τμήμα Μετεωρολογίας σε συνεννόηση με τους εταίρους του (Μετεωρολογικές Υπηρεσίες Ελλάδος και Ισραήλ) στο πρόγραμμα ονοματοδοσίας σημαντικών υφέσεων του οργανισμού των Ευρωπαϊκών Μετεωρολογικών Υπηρεσιών EUMETNET, αποφάσισε όπως του δώσει το όνομα «Carmel».
Η συγκεκριμένη ονομασία βρίσκεται στον κατάλογο των ονομάτων των υφέσεων που προαποφασίστηκε από τους εταίρους, είναι το τρίτο όνομα του καταλόγου (τα προηγούμενα δύο δόθηκαν ήδη σε αντίστοιχες υφέσεις) και είναι ονομασία που δόθηκε από την Ισραηλινή Μετεωρολογική Υπηρεσία.
Το όνομα «Carmel» παραπέμπει στο αντίστοιχο βιβλικό όρος και στην ομώνυμη πόλη των δυτικών ακτών του Ισραήλ. Το όνομα το συναντούμε και στη Κύπρο μεταξύ του Μαρωνίτικου πληθυσμού.
Οι ονομασίες των συστημάτων για το τρέχων υδρολογικό έτος κατατάσσονται σε αλφαβητική σειρά ως εξής:

Barometric low under the name «Carmel»
Time of issue: 1600, 16/12/2021 Local time
Barometric low developing during Saturday morning, centered over the area of Rhodes is moving southeastwards to the area of Cyprus, is deepening as a result of the dynamic instability that prevails in the middle atmosphere.
Due to the fact that the expected weather during the period from Saturday midnight until Monday afternoon will be significant, with heavy rain accumulation, prolonged and at the same time intense thunderstorms, near gale force wind and high sea, the Department of Meteorology in consultation with its partners (Meteorological Services of Greece and Israel) in the storm naming framework program of the EUMETNET, decided to name the depression as «Carmel».
This name is in the list of names pre-decided by our partners, it is the third name in the list (the previous two have already been given in respective depressions) and it is a name given by the Israeli Meteorological Service. The name «Carmel» refers to the corresponding biblical mountain and the homonymous city on the west coast of Israel. The name is also found in Cyprus among the Maronite population.
Storm naming for the current hudrometeorological year (i.e. October 2021 to October 2022) are listed as following:
